Education Satire Blog Post

Quote: “Becoming a valedictorian at a top high school is a grueling trajectory—involving perhaps a dozen A.P. classes and hours of study each night. Sometimes students cave into the pressure. In 2002, I  Audrey Lin, one of Mission San Jose’s many valedictorians admitted that she had cheated to get to the top in high school, and gave back her valedictorian plaque” (Talbot 230-231).

Breaking News: Valedictorian in a Cheating Scandal After Getting Caught Not Knowing What 1+1 Equals
By: Ranjana Angamuthu and Maria Lee
Another cheating scandal is rocking the nation right after Operation Varsity Blues**. People are shocked to discover that a high school valedictorian, Audrey Lim, who has been accepted into Harvard University, does not know what 1 + 1 equals. This case was discovered when she was at the Dollar Store with her friends and did not know what her total would be if she bought two items. When asked about the total, Audrey repeatedly switched topics, until finally admitting that she had never understood basic math and doesn’t particularly care for the subject.
A teacher at her high school, who overheard this and was shocked as Audrey got an A in all ten of the A.P. math classes she took, promptly alerted the principal. The principal and superintendent started looking into the manner and discovered that Audrey became valedictorian by cheating her way through high school. She paid her teachers to get special “study guides.” She would go to her teachers’ classrooms after school on the pretense of needing extra help, however, she actually went to receive special study guides that had all the test questions on them. She paid her teachers $1000 dollars per test to get the special study guides.
Understandably, this event sparked outrage throughout the nation, especially since people found out about this right after Operation Varsity Blues. Some students started getting the words “No Cheating” tattooed on their forehead as a sign of protest. Others spray painted the words on the buildings of Ivy League colleges and other top universities to show their outrage that people can get into these schools by cheating.
We’ll update you guys on the fallout Audrey Lim and her teachers are facing from this scandal as it develops.

**Operation Varsity Blues refers to the college admissions cheating scandal where rich people, including celebrities, paid to get their kids into top universities
